Concept Design

Body Concept design is the chosen concept, due to its simplicity and best modern aerodynamic body design. This concept has minimal body panels which means it will be lightweight and its simple shapes can be manufactured using basic tools. The concept design will help keep the costs down for both manufacture and selling price.

Calculations

  • Suspension geometry

  • Steering geometry

  • Chassis load

  • Drive-train gearing ratios

  • Aerodynamics load

  • Cooling system sizing

Suspension

In this design a double wishbone is most suitable, with ease of manufacture. Both front and rear suspension use the same exact dampers and the distance of the chassis vertical hinges, having both the same ride height of 100mm. At the front suspension, a steering knuckle is designed to work from the front side of the wheel making the steering rod to the wheels as straight as possible.

Steering

A Rack and pinion steering system is used, it consists of a metal tube also known as rack which is moved when the steering shaft is being rotated. The rack has a tie rod on each end which are also connected to the steering knuckle making the wheels move. Its best to use this due to its simplicity and ease of manufacture. The Steering system is very like a go kart which has an almost straight connection path between the wheels.

Vehicle Layout

The layout of the kit car is where, the Engine, battery, transaxle, fuel tank and rear hub are all at the back of the car and the cooling system, steering system and front hub assembly are all at the front end of the car. Most of the weight is at the back due to the kit car being a mid-engine.

Aerodynamics

The kit car has headlights and fog lights which are designed to deflect the air hitting the suspension, it is also used at the rear for a smoother airflow. The windscreen is there for deflecting the air over the driver and passenger for a comfortable ride. At the front the air flow is directed into the cooling system and consist of the shape of the car diverting the air flow. With the spoiler build in with the body it will increase the downforce just enough at high speeds. The wingmirrors are shaped so that the air doesn’t create drag at the mirrors.
