The implementation of a navigational system into a skateboard

This project focuses on the implementation of an intelligent navigational system into a skateboard. The objective is to design a skateboard which enables the user to navigate from one location to another without the need of using a handheld device while on the go. A microcontroller is used to display the speed, time and the direction indicators. The microcontroller is controlled using a smartphone application designed to communicate via Bluetooth. It allows the user to select their destination, look back on the history, share their data and find their lost skateboard.

The idea had risen when one imagines him/her self in a busy platform of a train station and as a train approaches that is not scheduled to stop at that platform, it rushes by that platform with an appreciable amount of speed. At that moment, what would be otherwise considered ‘’stationary’’ wind gets disturbed from the fast-moving train and a great amount of wind power is created and perceived.

The main aim in this, is to design a work piece out of a block of 160mmx110mmx70mm aluminium by only using a 3 axis CNC machine with a machine centre held by modular fixture. With the help of using fixture elements like locators, clamps and a modular base the aim is to make machining as easy and fast as possible due to machining 2000 components.

A series of 30mm to 50mm diameter precision cylindrical bars are needed to be machined, by designing a suitable soft jaw that can grab on the tube firmly whether the size without needing to replace the soft jaws with is easy to load and unload and changes in sizes.

This project has been set in place to promote sustainable engineering and to educate and encourage young people to solve social sustainability issues. In this project we are expected to design an electrical racing car to a strict specification. The car will be in a series of races, which will have duration of 60 minutes each.

Car Jack

3D Modelling Assessment

A scissor car jack, is made for people to lift a car up on one side to change a wheel. I have redesigned the scissor car jack by adding more surface area on the top part that gets in contact with the car making the jack more stable then before. The other modification that I have applied is instead of having a ring to fit the crow bar through, I changed the design by making the ring thicker and the overall size the same size as the threaded rod. For weight reduction I have got holes in areas like the arms, top and base.
